Septorhinoplasty Newport Beach & Orange County

A septorhinoplasty can improve both the appearance of your nose and the function for a better sense of well-being.

Living with a deviated septum is not easy, but many people who are suffering from this deformity of the nose do not know what options they have for fixing it. A deviated septum is a common structural nasal issue where the septum is crooked. This crooked part of the septum can cause an obstruction in one or both of the nasal cavities. It can leave a person feeling like they have a permanent stuffy nose or have that same person constantly dealing with nose bleeds. People who have a deviated septum often snore a lot, and can have difficulty sleeping.

The problem is most patients who suffer from a deviated septum think that the only way to fix it is with a rhinoplasty procedure. However, Dr. Kevin Sadati of Nose Job Recovery offers his patients a surgical option that specifically addresses the issue of the deviated septum. At his Newport Beach practice, he gives his patients the option of having a septoplasty. This procedure targets the deviated septum specifically, fixing the issue and alleviating the patient’s symptoms. It is a popular choice in Orange County.

While Dr. Kevin Sadati is largely known as a cosmetic and aesthetic surgeon who works with patients across Orange County and beyond, he is also an excellent nasal reconstructive surgeon for people who have structural issues in their nose. One such procedure is the septorhinoplasty surgery. The septorhinoplasty is designed patient who are willing to travel to Newport Beach and wish to correct any aesthetic issues, as well as correct a deviated septum and collapse nasal valves to improve their quality of life.

What is a Septorhinoplasty?

A septorhinoplasty is a cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure combined with a septoplasty. This procedure can help to address any aesthetic issues, as well as correct a deviated septum, which may result in an array of uncomfortable symptoms. These may include difficulty breathing which can lead to poor sleep and snoring. A septorhinoplasty will correct the deviated septum and improve the overall quality of life for the individual. While many people wrongly assume that a cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure alone will fix their deviated septum, Dr. Kevin Sadati wants his patients to know that it is only the septorhinoplasty that can provide them with the overall relief that they are seeking.

Who is a Candidate for Septorhinoplasty?

Anyone who has a nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum or nasal valve collapse and wants to alleviate the obstruction symptoms and better sleeping patterns is a good candidate for this procedure. As the septoplasty is a major surgical operation, it’s important that every patient is in good general health prior to the operation. Patients who have constant nose bleeds, difficulty sleeping, trouble breathing, post nasal drips, or problems with snoring all may be qualified candidates for the septoplasty procedure.

What to Expect During Your Septorhinoplasty Recovery

For the first 48 hours following your septorhinoplasty, you can expect to experience discomfort, nasal drainage, stiffness, and fatigue. Pain medication can help to minimize any discomfort for the first couple of days. After that, Tylenol is recommended to manage any potential recurring discomfort. You should experience some significant improvements in swelling within the first week.

For the first two weeks, patients should limit their physical activity levels and refrain from consuming alcohol, which can thin the blood during recovery. After three weeks, most patients can return to their usual activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a deviated septum worsen over time?

If a deviated septum is left untreated, it can get worse over time. The septum may continue to shift and swelling in the nasal passages due to allergies can make the symptoms worse. A septorhinoplasty can help to correct a deviated septum to relieve uncomfortable symptoms.

Does insurance cover a septorhinoplasty?

In some cases, insurance may cover some parts of a septorhinoplasty. However, each induvial case is unique, so it is important that you contact your insurance provider regarding your situation.  The cosmetic portion of septorhinoplasty is not covered by insurance.

When can I return to normal actives after my septorhinoplasty?

Patients will be able to gradually return to their normal activities following septorhinoplasty. Most people can return to light activities such as walking, ready, and climbing stairs on the second day. Moderate activities such as running and biking can often be resumed after three weeks. More intense activities are often put off until two months post op for best results.

How do I know if a septorhinoplasty is right for me?

If you have been diagnosed with a deviated septum but would also like to improve the outward appearance of your nose, you may be able to benefit from a septorhinoplasty. If you have a deviated septum, but do not wish to alter the appearance of your nose, a septoplasty would be the right treatment for you. Your available treatment options can be discussed with Dr. Sadati during your consultation.

What can I expect after my septorhinoplasty?

After your procedure, you will have a splint covering your nose. Your nose may also feel blocked and congested that may last for about 2-4 weeks. Be sure to avoid blowing your nose for 2-3 days after surgery. Any discomfort can be controlled with painkillers. It is advised that smokers stop smoking as this irritates the lining of the nose. Also, avoid drinking alcohol for 3-4 days post-op as this can contribute to bleeding. Most individuals take about 8-10 days off from work to heal, depending on your employment.

What are the goals of a septorhinoplasty?

A septorhinoplasty can achieve many improvements in the nose, including correction of a deviated septum, straightening of a crooked nose, supporting a droopy nasal tip, increasing nasal projection, increase the width of the nasal base, supporting of floppy nostril cartilage, augmenting the width and height of the nasal bridge, improvement in nasal breathing, and much more.
