Living with a deviated septum is not easy, but many people who are suffering from this deformity of the nose do not know what options they have for fixing it. A deviated septum is a common structural nasal issue where the septum is crooked. This crooked part of the septum can cause an obstruction in one or both of the nasal cavities. It can leave a person feeling like they have a permanent stuffy nose or have that same person constantly dealing with nose bleeds. People who have a deviated septum often snore a lot and can have difficulty sleeping.

The problem is that most patients who suffer from a deviated septum think that the only way to fix it is with a rhinoplasty procedure. However, Dr. Kevin Sadati of Nose Job Recovery offers his patients a surgical option that specifically addresses the issue of the deviated septum. At his Newport Beach practice, he gives his patients the option of having a septoplasty. This procedure targets the deviated septum specifically, fixing the issue and alleviating the patient’s symptoms. It is a popular choice in Orange County.

What is a Septorhinoplasty?

A septorhinoplasty is a cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure combined with a septoplasty. This procedure can help to address any aesthetic issues, as well as correct a deviated septum, which may result in an array of uncomfortable symptoms. These may include difficulty breathing, which can lead to poor sleep and snoring.

A septorhinoplasty will correct the deviated septum and improve the overall quality of life for the individual. While many people wrongly assume that a cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure alone will fix their deviated septum, Dr. Kevin Sadati wants his patients to know that it is only the septorhinoplasty that can provide them with the overall relief that they are seeking.

Who is a Candidate for Septorhinoplasty?

Anyone who has a nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum or nasal valve collapse and wants to alleviate the obstruction symptoms and better sleeping patterns is a good candidate for this procedure. As the septoplasty is a major surgical operation, it’s important that every patient is in good general health prior to the operation. Patients who have constant nose bleeds, difficulty sleeping, trouble breathing, post-nasal drips, or problems with snoring may all be qualified candidates for the septoplasty procedure.

Preparing for Your Septorhinoplasty

Prior to your septorhinoplasty procedure, be sure to arrange a ride home after your surgery, as you will not be able to drive yourself. Also, consult with Dr. Sadati on whether you need to stop using any prescribed or over-the-counter medications before your surgery. Also, be sure to share any allergies with Dr. Sadati.

What to Expect During Your Septorhinoplasty Recovery

For the first 48 hours following your septorhinoplasty, you can expect to experience discomfort, nasal drainage, stiffness, and fatigue. Pain medication can help to minimize any discomfort for the first couple of days. After that, Tylenol is recommended to manage any potential recurring discomfort. You should experience some significant improvements in swelling within the first week.

Aftercare

For the first two weeks, patients should limit their physical activity levels and refrain from consuming alcohol, which can thin the blood during recovery. After three weeks, most patients can return to their usual activities.

Dr. Sadati’s Septorhinoplasty Method

In some patients, a deviated septum can result in a bump or a crooked nasal bridge. This happens most often when a patient has a deviated septum or collapse of the nasal valve as a result of an injury. For patients who want to remove that bump or correct the nasal valve, Dr. Kevin Sadati offers the septorhinoplasty procedure. This unique combination surgery not only addresses the functional issues of the nose, but also provides the patient with the cosmetic improvement that they are looking for.

Different surgeons use different techniques when performing this particular procedure. As an expert in the field, Dr. Sadati prefers to use an open technique. Typically, he will begin by making tiny internal incisions that are very discreet and then subsequently lift the septal membrane. The crooked part of the nose is then removed. For some patients, it is fixed and then put back in place. For other patients, the deviated portion is removed entirely.

Patients should note that the standard septoplasty procedure does not provide cosmetic improvement as it is designed to only address structural issues within the nose.

Many people are dealing with inconvenient symptoms, such as snoring, fatigue, or difficulty breathing, and do not even realize that they have a deviated septum. If you think that you may suffer from a deviated septum and are interested in your surgical options, set up a consultation appointment with Dr. Kevin Sadati today. He can discuss with you the various options available and the different septoplasty techniques that he uses. Contact his office today for more information.
