Recovery after Revision Rhinoplasty

Hopefully, most Orange County rhinoplasty patients never have to decide to have the revision rhinoplasty procedure performed. However, this procedure is available for those in Newport Beach who received unsatisfactory results from their primary rhinoplasty procedure.

The revision rhinoplasty is a more complex cosmetic surgery operation that comes with a longer recovery time. Patients who decide to have the revision nose job performed by an expert facial plastic surgeon should understand what the recovery process is like after the fact.

What Can I Expect From the Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery?

The operation itself takes longer than the primary rhinoplasty, and the length of time will vary based on the severity of the operation. However, most patients are able to return home the day that the procedure is performed.

A family member or friend must be at the facility in order to transport the patient home. It is a good idea for this caretaker to be available for the patient after they arrive home so that the patient can focus on resting and recovering from the operation.

During the first several days after the operation, the patient may experience mild to moderate pain. The actual pain levels will vary for each patient because each revision rhinoplasty will address different parts of the nasal structure.

Most patients describe the pain as feeling like excessive pressure on their nasal structure, and they find that an oral pain medication is enough to help them manage their discomfort.

By the time one week has passed, patients will notice that most of the visible swelling has subsided. There may still be a little bit of bruising at this time. Patients should schedule a follow-up appointment with the surgeon at this point in the recovery.

After two weeks, most of the bruising from this procedure will be diminished and will no longer be visible. Most patients will find that they no longer have to irrigate the nose at this point, and many people return to work two weeks after the operation.

During the first four weeks, patients should avoid any contact sports or strenuous exercise activities. The nose is still fragile, and the results are still in jeopardy at this point. Patients who have to participate in strenuous activities should wear a face mask for extra security and protection.

Each individual revision rhinoplasty procedure is different and unique. The recovery process will vary from patient to patient based on the type of work that was required during the actual revision procedure.

Patients should understand that this recovery can take longer than their primary rhinoplasty, because it is the second traumatic experience that the facial structure has had to endure in a relatively short period of time.

It is essential to remain patient after this operation, because the full results of the surgery may not reveal themselves until after a year has passed. However, at that point, most patients report that they are pleased with the end result and that they are happy they decided to have the revision procedure performed.
