What Does Mommy Makeover Recovery Look Like?

Many women struggle with their bodies after having kids. Sagging skin, weakened abdominal muscles, and drooping breasts are all common problems after pregnancy and breastfeeding. With a mommy makeover, all those issues can be addressed in one surgical session. But what about after the procedure? What is recovery like? Let’s take a look at what you can expect from a mommy makeover.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a collection of surgical procedures that aims to return the body to what it looked like pre-pregnancy. Whether you’re struggling with your breasts, abs, hips, or labia after pregnancy and breastfeeding, this procedure can address all those areas and more at one time.

Some of the surgical procedures often included in a mommy makeover include:

Breast Augmentation

If you want to enhance the size and shape of your breasts after pregnancy, breast augmentation can be a great option. Breast implants come in many different sizes to ensure you get the customized results you’re looking for. We also offer fat transfer at the Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Lounge.

Breast Lift

Sagging breasts are a common problem after pregnancy and breastfeeding. A breast lift repositions and shapes the breasts to give them a perkier and more youthful appearance. Your surgeon may also reposition your nipple and areola to a more appropriate place. During surgery, excess skin is removed, and the breast is raised to a higher position on the chest wall.

Tummy Tuck

The abdomen is one of the most impacted areas during and after pregnancy. The area becomes stretched, and the muscles are weak. A tummy tuck can tighten and strengthen the muscles and remove excess skin and fat to give you the contoured appearance you’re looking for.

Liposuction

If you’re struggling with stubborn fat that diet and exercise don’t seem to have any effect on, liposuction can be a great addition to your mommy makeover. The unwanted fat can be removed from your waist, hips, thighs, arms, legs, and abdomen.

Labiaplasty

After pregnancy, the labia can often become stretched out. With labiaplasty, we can restore the aesthetic appearance of your labia and address any discomfort you experience during sex or at other moments in your day-to-day life.

Mommy Makeover Recovery

How long your recovery is and the extent of it depends greatly on how many procedures are a part of your mommy makeover. The more procedures you have, the longer your recovery is likely to be. That said, the recovery time will be much shorter when you have all the procedures done at one time versus if you had them done separately.

During the first few days, you will likely feel some discomfort, but your provider will prescribe pain medication to ensure you’re comfortable. You can also use cold compresses.

You’ll also likely have some swelling and bruising for the first few weeks, but that will resolve on its own over time. To help reduce the swelling, make sure to wear your compression garment. We also recommend walking around a little throughout the day to promote circulation, reduce the risk of blood clots, and minimize bruising. You’ll also want to get plenty of rest in these first few weeks.

As for work, you’ll likely want to take two weeks off for your initial recovery. If you have a physically demanding job, you may need to take more time off. You’ll want to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities for four to six weeks. Heaving lifting includes lifting and carrying your kids as well.

Three months into your recovery, you’ll likely be able to see how the mommy makeover has changed your body, but it can take up to a year to see the final results.
