Taking Care of Your Face After a Facelift
Facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is one of the most effective ways to treat visible signs of aging. Facial aging can be caused by gravity, stress, sun exposure, and some lifestyle choices. Facial aging also occurs due to loss of collagen and elastin, two naturally occurring proteins that help our skin look and act young. Facelift procedures can help counteract that loss and help rejuvenate the face by removing excess skin that can create an aging appearance including jowling and sagging, while also tightening the underlying muscles. Dr. Sadati is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon specializing in facelift procedures as well as other various facial rejuvenation techniques. At the Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, he will help you provide you with beautiful, yet very natural, results.
After Your Facelift.
Here is what you can expect after your facelift procedure at the Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery.
The Facelift is meant to make you look years younger, but you won’t achieve that immediately. There will be swelling and bruising while you are healing. As these effects fade you will start to see the results. Following the surgery, Dr. Sadati will wrap your head in bandages. This may feel tight at first because it is meant to apply pressure to the face, neck, and head. The pressure helps to minimize swelling and bruising. Usually, the bandages will be removed one day after the surgery. Once the dressings are removed, you may shower.
One of the most important aspects of the healing process is keeping your head elevated. Not only does this help to reduce recovery time but it also prevents asymmetry. You may feel tightness and numbness. This feeling typically resolves within two months. Tightness is caused by swelling. As the swelling subsides, the skin starts to loosen and become more stable. Any feeling of numbness may continue for several months but will improve gradually.
While healing, make sure to monitor your incisions for any indication of an infection. Signs of infection include redness, swelling, tightness, pus, drainage, excessive pain, and increasing warmth. If you get a fever of 101 degrees Fahrenheit or more then this could indicate an infection.
