Rhinoplasty: Do You Really Know Whats Happening?

The rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in Orange County, but many people often have the misperception that a cosmetic surgery is less invasive than a medically-necessary surgery. While the goal of the nose job procedure is to improve the appearance of a person’s nose, it’s important to remember that it is still a major surgical operation. Dr. Kevin Sadati recommends that Newport Beach patients who are interested in the rhinoplasty research the surgery and understand what happens during the actual procedure.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

The anesthesia is the medication that is used in order to keep the patient comfortable and relaxed during the procedure. Many patients will opt to use general anesthesia for their rhinoplasty, but IV sedation also is available. Dr. Kevin Sadati works with each patient to find out which anesthesia option is the best.[/toggle_item]
[toggle_item title=”Step 2″ active=”false”]After the patient is comfortable and resting, Dr. Kevin Sadati will make the incision. The placement of the incision will depend on the technique that is being used. During the closed technique, the incision is made near the sides of the nostril. When the open technique is used, the incision is made in between the two nostrils. After the incision is made, Dr. Kevin Sadati will lift the skin from the nose in order to begin reshaping and improving the nasal structure.[/toggle_item]

Many times, Dr. Kevin Sadati, is able to harvest cartilage from the septum and use it to improve the appearance of the nose.[/toggle_item]
[toggle_item title=”Step 4″ active=”false”]After the nose has been reshaped and the nasal structure has been improved, Dr. Kevin Sadati will correct the deviated septum if necessary. Not every patient has a deviated septum, but those that do will have it corrected at this point during the operation.[/toggle_item]

Finally, Dr. Kevin Sadati will place the nasal skin back over the structure of the nose, and the incision will be closed. Stints and tubes are used to provide the nose with additional support during the critical first days after the operation. Patients will have these support measures removed within a week of the surgery, and at that point they will begin to see the results of the operation.

By understanding the steps involved during the surgical procedure, many rhinoplasty patients feel more at ease about the operation. Dr. Kevin Sadati is committed to patient education and makes it a point to be as honest as possible with each patient. Patients must have realistic expectations before having a rhinoplasty procedure performed, and they also must understand that it can take several months before they will see the final results of their surgery.
