Things to Know About the Rhinoplasty Procedure

The rhinoplasty procedure has long been one of the most popular and desired cosmetic surgery procedures in Orange County. The nose is a true focal point on the face, especially given its central location.

Newport Beach patients have found that the nose job is the perfect procedure for them, because it provides them with natural-looking enhancements that allow them to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. However, patients should be informed about the logistics of this procedure before they book an appointment in the operating room with an expert facial plastic surgeon.

What are the Most Important Things to Know About the Rhinoplasty Procedure?

Patients should understand that they will have to take time off of work or school in order to rest and recover after the surgery. On average, the initial recovery at home lasts for about 7-10 days. Patients may want to enlist the help of friends and family to take care of them during this time.

The actual operation will last about an hour, but the length can vary based on the individual patient and what needs to be accomplished during the procedure. Patients will be placed under general anesthesia for this surgery. While under the anesthesia, patients will not be aware of what is going on during the operation. Instead, they will be comfortable and sleeping.

The initial recovery in the hospital will last for about an hour. Patients will only be released to a qualified driver who can take them home from the hospital. Someone should be at the house in order to care for the patient for the first 24 hours after the operation.

Patients can expect to have a nasal splint or cast placed over their nose, and there will be significant bruising and swelling immediately after the procedure is complete. The cast will be removed within five days, and most bruising and swelling will subside significantly within the first two weeks after the operation.

The surgeon will schedule a follow-up appointment with the patient about a week after the operation. At this time, the patient will be clearedto return to work or school.

However, certain restrictions will still be in place. Patients should avoid exercising for at least a month, and contact sports should be avoided for about six months. Patients should not allow their glasses to rest on the bridge of their nose for at least five weeks after the surgery.

Patients who are both mentally and physically prepared for the operation will enjoy better results in the long term. Finding a qualified cosmetic surgeon who is considered an expert in the rhinoplasty procedure is the first step, but the recovery also plays a significant role in the end results of this operation.

Patients must be patient during this pivotal time, and understand that the true results of their surgery may not be revealed until a year after the operation. Most patients are proud to show off their nose within 4-6 weeks, but minor swelling and bruising will still be subsiding. After 12 months has passed, patients will know that their new look is here to stay.
