Planning Your Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)
A rhinoplasty is a form of cosmetic nose surgery that aims to correct imperfections in the nose. The end result of a successful rhinoplasty is a nose that’s proportional in size and shape to the patient’s face, thus making him, or her appear younger and more attractive.
If you are considering rhinoplasty, you might be wondering what to expect in terms of planning and preparing for the day of the surgery.
Planning and Preparation
The key to adequately preparing for a cosmetic nose procedure is to consult with an experienced nose surgeon. During your initial consultation with the surgeon, you’ll determine your candidacy for the procedure; if you’re a viable candidate (most people are), you’ll go on to explain to your surgeon what kinds of results you’d like to see.
Your surgeon should also review your anesthesia options with you and how the procedure will be performed; this way, you’ll well informed and know what to expect on the day of the surgery. During your consultation, you should also let your surgeon know if you are on any medications, if you take any recreational drugs, or if you are a smoker. He or she will also recommend that you find somebody to drive you home after the procedure, as you will be unable to.
The Day of Your Surgery
On the day of your procedure, you’ll either arrive at an outpatient center or in a hospital. You’ll begin by being placed under anesthesia, where you’ll be awake and conscious but won’t be able to feel anything around your nose. From there, the procedure itself typically takes just an hour or two—and assuming everything goes smoothly, you should be able to head home shortly after the procedure is complete.
