What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is performed to restore a youthful appearance in the neck, smoothing neck bands, reducing excess fat and skin, and reversing a “turkey neck.” A neck lift may include liposuction to remove fat from below the chin or throughout the neck, as well as surgical techniques used to remove excess, drooping skin. Dr. Sadati can performs neck lifts under local anesthesia with twilight sedation without the need for general anesthesia. This means that the procedure is completely pain-free and patients are relaxed and comfortable, but sleeping throughout the surgery. Twilight anesthesia is safer than general anesthesia for many patients, and results in a quicker recovery time.

Once anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Sadati will make a small incision below the chin to tighten the skin. Through these incisions, the muscles are also tightened to create a smoother look. If necessary, additional incisions near the ears can also be made to further tighten the skin. Liposuction may also be used to reduce fat.

Regardless of the type of anesthesia you receive for your neck lift, the surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day with a friend or family member. All of Dr. Sadati’s procedures are performed in his AAAHC certified outpatient surgical facility.

What is Recovery Like After a Neck Lift with Local Anesthesia?

Typically, the recovery period after a neck lift is about two weeks. During this time, swelling and bruising are normal. You will be required to wear a compression garment on the area to reduce swelling and ensure proper healing and your best possible results. After about a week, Dr. Sadati will remove any stitches that are in place. Discomfort can be managed with prescription pain medication during the healing process. Most patients return to work or their regular routine after about two weeks, but should avoid strenuous activity or exercise for up to six weeks. You will notice your final results after about three months as residual swelling dissipates.
