Long-Term Results: Maintaining the Benefits of a Deep Plane Facelift

There are a variety of facelift techniques that can achieve transformative results, but for those with more severe signs of aging, a deep-plane facelift is the best solution. As the name suggests, it addresses the deep layers of tissue in the face and allows you to turn back the clock and look years younger.

What is A Deep Plane Facelift?

The deep plane facelift works by releasing and restoring the deep layers of tissue in the face below the SMAS, or superficial musculoaponeurotic system. This layer includes the muscles and fat pad tissue below the skin that tends to weaken and sag as you get older.

During the procedure, the ligaments that anchor the SMAS are released, allowing Dr. Sadati to reposition and elevate the overlying skin and deep tissues, leaving you with a completely rejuvenated face.

The procedure is done using IV sedation known as twilight sedation, so general anesthesia isn’t needed, meaning while you are in deep sleep and unaware of your environment yet can breathe on your own.

Once the deep muscles and SMAS are repositioned and elevated, the skin is redraped, and tissue adhesive is applied to reduce bruising and swelling. Incisions are closed using sutures, and your face and neck are wrapped with dressings.

Who is a Good Candidate for Deep Plane Facelift?

You’re likely a good candidate for a deep plane facelift if you’re between 45 and 70 years old and struggling with sagging skin around the cheeks and jowls, as well as folds and wrinkles.

You may also be a good candidate if you:

  • Are in generally good health.
  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Are a nonsmoker.
  • Have no underlying medical conditions that could affect the healing process.

Recovery and Results

The deep plane facelift, like any other surgery we offer at Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, requires recovery. Because general anesthesia is not needed, you should have minimal side effects from anesthesia prospetive. You may see some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Prescription pain medications and ice packs can help reduce these effects.

You’ll also want to sleep in an upright position to aid with swelling and avoid strenuous activities.

Dr. Sadati also recommend a special healing cream for two weeks, and after that, scar-reducing cream should be used for six weeks.

You may see some results immediately after surgery, but your final results typically take a few months to show up.

How to Maintain the Benefits of Deep Plane Facelift

After you have a deep plane facelift and see the amazing results, you’ll likely want to know how you can keep those results for as long as possible. Typically, the results last 10-15 years, but there are a few ways you can maintain those results even longer.

Follow Post-Op Instructions

Following Dr. Sadati’s post-op instructions is the best way to ensure you achieve the results you’re looking for and that the results stick around for at least a decade. This includes relaxing for the first day or two after surgery, keeping your head elevated, taking any medication Dr. Sadati recommends, and using cold compresses to reduce swelling.

You can start taking short walks and light activities the first week after surgery, and if you don’t have a physically demanding job, you can return to work. You may resume exercising after one month or after your surgeon clears you at your follow-up appointment.

Avoid Excess Sun Exposure

During recovery and after your deep plane facelift, you’ll want to avoid excess sun exposure. The sun can damage and age your skin and diminish the results of the procedure. Protecting your skin from the sun with sunscreen, hats, visors, and sunglasses for the skin around your eyes can be incredibly beneficial to maintaining the benefits of this type of facelift.

Use Skincare

Having a skincare routine is always important when you want to keep your skin healthy and looking its best. The same goes for keeping up the results of a deep plane facelift. By regularly moisturizing, exfoliating, and cleansing your skin and using products that address your specific skin concerns, you can stay looking as young as you feel for years to come.

Try Nonsurgical Treatments

At the Gallery Of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Lounge, we offer a number of nonsurgical treatments that can help you maintain the results of your deep plane facelift. This includes Botox, dermal fillers, laser treatments, facials and peels, and much more.
