What Is the Difference Between a Deep Plane Facelift and a SMAS Facelift?

A traditional SMAS facelift acts at skin level, so it tends not to be effective for someone with a heavy jawline and neck caused by more advanced aging. Often you’ll see good improvement in the first few years, but then the skin relaxes again and the result fades.

A more advanced approach is the deep plane facelift, which lifts the deeper soft tissue layer under the skin, called SMAS, and repositions it vertically, giving a more natural, lasting result rather than pulling the skin horizontally and causing widening of the mouth.
