Do I Need a Brow Lift with a Facelift?
Not all facelift patients need a brow lift, but for many it’s what makes up the whole picture rather than an optional extra. The face ages as one unit, and by focusing only on the lower face without addressing a heavy or descended brow, we risk leaving patients with unbalanced results even if their facelift has been well done.
This 54-year-old with lovely olive skin wanted rejuvenation that complemented her ethnic features without masking them. To get a result that looked properly harmonious, we needed to consider her face as one unit rather than tick off individual concerns. As part of her plan, she had a deep plane facelift, endoscopic brow lift and repositioning of her buccal fat pads. Together, these make up what’s called a vertical facelift.
To avoid risk of hyperpigmentation on her darker skin, we opted for a TCA chemical peel instead of CO2 laser resurfacing of her skin. This avoided risk of thermal injury but allowed refinement of skin texture.
At first she didn’t want to show her before and after deep plane facelift results but ended up loving them. Her brow lift wasn’t an add-on to ensure symmetry of her face but was built into her wider plan to give her face balance, creating a vertical lift and heart-shaped face.
