What Are the Pros and Cons of Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

As rhinoplasty is consistently one of the most popular plastic surgery options, it comes as no surprise that non-surgical rhinoplasty is intriguing for many as well. Like any cosmetic procedure, there are some pros and cons to consider. Here are some benefits and downsides of liquid rhinoplasty that you should know before scheduling your initial consultation.

Pros of Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

The most obvious pro of non-surgical rhinoplasty is that the procedure can be completed without the downtime or risks of surgery. Non-surgical rhinoplasty requires no anesthesia, which reduces risks of the procedure and cuts down on the total time. Most non-surgical rhinoplasties can be completed in as little as 15 minutes, a drastic difference from the 1-4 hours of a traditional nose job.

Patients can also see their results immediately with no downtime at all. As soon as your appointment is complete, you can return to your normal routine. Our providera will advise you to avoid exercise, alcohol, or blood-thinning medications during the first 24 hours after your liquid rhinoplasty, but you can otherwise return to your daily routine.

Finally, non-surgical rhinoplasty results are temporary and reversible. Hyaluronic acid injectables can be dissolved if you are unhappy with the results, and all injectables eventually break down naturally and safely. This makes non-surgical rhinoplasty a great option for patients who aren’t ready to make a commitment to a new look.

Cons of Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Just as temporary results are a benefit for some patients, they can be a con for others. To maintain results from a non-surgical rhinoplasty, you will have to have routine maintenance injections every 9-12 months depending on the type of injectable used. Some patients choose to have an initial non-surgical rhinoplasty to “preview” their results before undergoing a traditional rhinoplasty to make their new look permanent.

Liquid rhinoplasty can also be risky. The nose is a complex organ, and while rare, injections in incorrect places by an inexperience provider can cause vascular complications leading to necrosis of the skin or even blindness. For this reason, it’s important to choose a board-certified surgeons like Dr. Sadati and Dr. Florin who understands facial anatomy and proper injection techniques.

Finally, the results you can achieve through non-surgical rhinoplasty are limited. You cannot, for example, make the nose smaller as you could with a traditional rhinoplasty. Non-surgical rhinoplasties can be chosen to disguise a bump on the nasal bridge, adjust the angle or shape of the nasal tip, or make other small changes.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liquid Rhinoplasty?

The ideal liquid rhinoplasty candidate seeks to change small asymmetries, bumps on the bridge of the nose, or slightly drooping tips. They should understand what results they can realistically achieve with a liquid rhinoplasty and the procedure’s pros and cons. Finally, there are some health concerns that may mean you are not a suitable candidate for injectables in general. For example, patients who take blood-thinning medication may not be safe candidates for injectables. During a consultation, our doctors will review your relevant health history and examine your nose to determine whether a liquid rhinoplasty is a good option for you.
