Recovery After A Sinus Surgery
Sinus conditions can be debilitating, leaving those who suffer from them to deal with sinus pain, pressure, congestion, fevers, and chronic coughs. People who deal with chronic sinusitis often need to have sinus surgery performed in order to treat the condition once and for all. Dr. Kevin Sadati is a cosmetic surgery specialist who also performs sinus surgery procedures, and he offers these tips for patients who will be recovering from this type of surgery.
“The sinus surgery recovery process is well tolerated by most patients who are in generally good health,” noted Dr. Kevin Sadati. “However, it is important that patients adhere to the directions provided to them by the surgeon and take the time that they need in order to rest and recuperate.”
Orange County patients who have a sinus surgery procedure performed need to know that the first 24-48 hours after surgery is critical. During this time, they need to be resting with their head elevated at all times. This allows the initial swelling and bruising to begin to subside, and it eliminates pressure from the face.
In most cases, nasal splint is used to protect the surgical site and provide the patient with the best possible results. This splint should be left in place until it is removed by the surgeon during a follow-up visit. Due to nasal congestion, patients may need to breathe through their mouths during this time.
Patients may experience slight bleeding in the first few days immediately following the operation. However, excessive bleeding is not normal and should be reported to the surgeon immediately. To prevent severe blood loss, patients should avoid blood-thinning medications prior to the surgery and also during their recovery.
While the initial recovery period lasts for several days, patients will need to be careful about heavy lifting and participating in strenuous activities for several weeks.
“Patience during the recovery process is critical,” said Dr. Kevin Sadati. “Those who take the time they need to fully recover enjoy the best results.”
